Sandburg’s White Qualifies for NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship

Carl Sandburg College freshman Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) punched his ticket to the NJCAA Division II Championship with a 10th-place finish at the Region IV Tournament on Saturday at PrairieView Golf Club.
White, who led after the opening round of the 54-hole tournament, finished at 242 (75-85-82) for the weekend, earning one of six individual qualifying spots for nationals and second-team All-Region IV honors. He’ll compete in the NJCAA Division II Championship May 19-22 at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Mo.
It marks the eighth straight year and 12th time in the last 13 years Sandburg has sent an individual or team to the national tournament.
The Chargers finished fourth in the nine-team region with a total of 1,012 after posting rounds of 333, 336 and 343. Black Hawk (959) and Sauk Valley (976) earned the two team qualifying spots from Region IV for the national tournament. Highland was third at 987.
Oakton’s Nzelu Maitha shot a 1-over-par 73 in the final round and was the region champion with a three-day total of 230. He beat runner-up Gabe Beardsley of Black Hawk by five strokes.
